I created this series in 2021 based on my re-reading of the Genji Monogatari, arguably the first novel ever written. The Book is actually a combination of 54 Chapters that tell the life of Hikaru Genji the son of a Japanese emperor Kiritsubo. The book was written in 1009 and was later greatly enhanced 100 years later when an unknown artist or artists created the Genji Monogatari Emaki (Picture scroll). The original scroll was about 450 feet long and consisted of twenty rolls containing over 100 paintings and over 300 sheets of Calligraphy. The surviving scrolls are of only 19 paintings, 65 sheets of text and 9 pages of fragments. My images inspired by the scrolls and the novel as well as my study of Japanese culture when I lived and taught English in Japan 1973-1976. The images posted here are about half of the final series which will have 54 pieces , the same basic structure of the novel.
