My latest work is concentrated in two new series where I am experimenting with new process and materials. The most important of these are what I have named Digital Combines. I have borrowed the term Combine from Robert Rauschenberg who produced his Combines , very large pieces that brought together 2 dimensional work - Paintings and Collage- with 3 dimensional Sculpture - at least to my mind that is what his Combines are. I have picked that descriptor to explain my processes of starting with analog 2 dimensional objects - finished paintings, prints, discarded studio paper used plexiglass , glass and paper pallets -really anything I have available. I then arrange and stage these on top of each other and occasionally in front of a light source, and photograph them. I then pull them into my IPad and or computer where I further manipulate the images. Ultimately these images are then printed on a variety of media - archival papers, canvas, wood, acrylic and metal. I also on occasion will take a photo of a stalled or failed painting which I then augment and digitally manipulate as above. This new body of work is almost always done in a series like my Goldberg Variations.
